A brief introduction to the types and uses of rivets

2021-10-07

Rivets are common fastening parts. According to materials, they are divided into plastic rivets and metal rivets. According to head type, they are semicircular head rivets, flat cone head rivets, countersunk head / semi countersunk head, flat head / flat round head rivets, etc. Different rivets have different application scenarios;

plastic rivets

Half round head rivet:

It is mainly used for riveting with large transverse load, which is the most widely used.

Flat taper head rivets:

Because the nail head is fat and corrosion resistant, it is often used in riveting occasions with strong corrosion, such as ship hull, boiler water tank and so on.

Countersunk head, 1200 countersunk head rivet:

It is mainly used for riveting with smooth surface and small load.

Semi countersunk head, 1200 semi countersunk head rivet:

It is mainly used for riveting with smooth surface and small load.

Flat head rivet:

It is used for riveting with general load.

Flat head and flat round head rivets:

It is mainly used for riveting of sheet metal or non-metallic materials such as leather, canvas and wood.

Large flat head rivet:

It is mainly used for riveting of non-metallic materials.

Semi blind rivets:

It is mainly used in riveting occasions with small load. For the selection of head type, please refer to the introduction of various solid rivets mentioned above.

Headless rivets:

It is mainly used for riveting of non-metallic materials.

Hollow rivet:

Light weight, weak nail head, used for riveting of non-metallic materials with small load.

Tubular rivets:

It is used for riveting of non-metallic materials without load.

Label rivet:

It is mainly used for riveting nameplates on machines and equipment.

Blind rivets:

It is a kind of rivet for single-sided riveting, but the special tool pull riveter (manual, electric and dynamic) must be used for riveting. This kind of rivet is especially suitable for riveting occasions where it is inconvenient to use ordinary rivets (riveting must be carried out from both sides), so it is widely used in buildings, automobiles, ships, aircraft, machinery, electrical appliances, furniture and other products. Among them, open flat round head blind rivets are the most widely used, countersunk blind rivets are suitable for riveting occasions where smooth performance is required, and closed blind rivets are suitable for riveting occasions where high load and certain sealing performance are required.

Blind rivets:

It is another kind of rivet riveted on one side. During riveting, knock the rivet head with a hammer to expose the rivet core and make it flush with the end face of the rivet head, that is, it is very convenient to complete the riveting operation. It is especially suitable for riveting occasions where it is inconvenient to use ordinary rivets (riveting from both sides) or core pulling rivets (lack of riveting gun). Generally, flat round head core riveting is used, and countersunk head core riveting is suitable for occasions where smooth surface riveting is required.
